FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHER
Hi, y’all! Shannon Menary here, tickled that you’re considering amba. to photograph your birth! What do you need to know about me? Well, Shaun and I weren’t going to have kids AT ALL, so our little whoopsie baby has thrown our lives into the most wonderful kind of chaos. Now, of course, we can’t imagine life without Mister Buddy.
Our own pregnancy and (TWO-DAY, Y’ALL!) home birth ignited a passion for the entire experience of bringing life into the world. And after five years of photographing weddings with my husband, I felt ready to launch my own birth photography studio, wooooooo! Mama power!
I’m a Ravenclaw through and through, and I LOVE Indian food…aloo gobi anyone? My go-to “never have I ever” is that I’ve never been fishing, and I spend way too much money on Beautycounter products. I cry every.single.time I photograph a birth, and I hope that never changes.

SO WHAT DOES “AMBA” MEAN?
“Amba” is essentially “mother” in Sanskrit, the language that connects us to our beginning…just like childbirth. Birth is the most human of events, a thread that connects us to each other and tethers us to the outset of human history. Everybody who has ever been alive on the is earth has been born.
And you won’t see the word without the period…the most intentional period…yes, a proud nod to the menstrual cycle, the process that compels the creation of life. I believe that when we embrace the blood, sweat, and tears of childbirth, we can create compelling birth photography that has the power to destigmatize womanhood.

THE AMBA.MAMA MATERNITY PORTRAIT
These fleeting days will be gone before you know it. This brief and glorious time when your own body made life from scratch, nourished that life to thrive independently of yours, and put the mechanics in motion to guide that life out of your womb and into your arms.
An amba.mama session is personalized to each client, shot in-studio, and yields elevated imagery for the discerning mama-to-be.
