Carmen Bridgewater
International Award Winning Birth Photographer

I am a wife, mother, and birth photographer from the Midwest creating provocative art below the Mason Dixon line. I draw inspiration from the diaspora – how we interact with the world around us and vice versa; how we both challenge societal views of us as well as reclaim negative stereotypes as our own. My art is boldly political and beautifully subversive.

Marijke Thoen
Birth and Motherhood Photographer

Marijke Thoen , Birth & Motherhood photographer

Marijke Thoen is a Belgian based birth & motherhood photographer. Marijke has been active as a birth photographer since 2008. She won the annual IAPBP competition in 2016 and 2018, amongst many other International Awards. With the award-winning-image from 2018 being banned from social media she took action which eventually resulted in Fb and IG changing their policies and allowing uncensored birth images on their platforms.

Currently working on a book project, with real, raw and honest portraits of mothers. With these portraits it is her goal to empower mothers, and women in general, to see the beauty and sacredness of their perfectly imperfect bodies.

When not behind her camera, Marijke likes to spend time on the yoga mat or in nature. She enjoys to have deep conversations about life with her beloved teenagers and watch sunsets with her Brazilian girlfriend.

Brittney Hogue
Birth Photographer

Brittney Hogue began as a birth photographer in Central Illinois in 2016 and has been a member of the IAPBP since 2017. She has become a well known name throughout the Midwest in the birth niche for both photography and videography. Brittney believes documentary imagery can serve as a self-expressive tool of intrinsic processing. By art-making with birthing people, the opportunity exists to influence the narratives which are adopted surrounding their experiences. Brittney therefore believes birth photography exists not only to enrich the birthing experience, but to be a platform to amplify marginalized voices, as well as a way for birthing people to assert their autonomy in historically limiting spaces.

Brittney currently lives in Pekin, IL with her partner, three children, three cats, two dogs, a large real-life TBR, and larger than life dreams. She is currently pursuing higher education to obtain the designation of Registered Art Therapist in the state of Illinois and hopes to contribute research in the future on the effects of art-making in the processing of traumatic perinatal experiencing.

Sunday Torelli

Sunday Tortelli is a DONA Approved Birth Doula trainer, DONA Advanced Certified Birth Doula, past President of DONA International and current member of the DONA Certification Committee. She is certified as a childbirth educator with BirthWorks International, the HypnoBirthing Institute, Lamaze International, and Spinning Babies. Sunday is also Co-Leader and Member Relations Chair for ICAN of Greater Cleveland.

Shea Long
Photographer/ Doula / Mentor
Shea was completing her photography degree in 2013 when she documented her first birth story. The experience was one of the most moving and impactful moments of her life, and she decided that photographing births, and supporting families through their journey to parenthood was how she wanted to spend the rest of her life. She is now an international award winning photographer and doula at Coastal Lifestyles Photography located on beautiful Vancouver Island BC. Her work can be found in many publications such as  Elle Magazine and Today’s Parent, and featured on sites such as Huffington Post, Daily Mail, Positive Birth Movement and many more.

When she isn’t photographing bumps, birth and babies, Shea can be found hiking and exploring the Pacific Northwest with her partner Greg and their two coonhounds or drinking an earl grey tea in the garden.
Albany Alverez
Award Winning Birth Photographer and Educator

Albany J is a Mexican birth and family photographer based in the beautiful Yucatan Peninsula. She has been capturing beautiful moments since 2012. As a longboard lover and an Aquarius zodiac cliche, she embraces her unique personality in both her life and photography. Albany’s genuine and sincere approach allows her to connect with people and share her knowledge in a meaningful way. Through documenting births, she has witnessed the transformative power of healing and how images can alter our perception of the birthing experience.

Jelina Sonnenberg
BPOTY Live Panel Judge
Jelina is an ever evolving human being constantly learning which then translates into everything she does. From birth work to bereavement work, birth photography and videography, to mentoring and even parenting. She received her BA in Human Development/Counseling Services with the intent to pursue a career in therapy but ended up changing her path after experiencing the birth of her first in 2017. She recently moved to Central Illinois from San Diego with her family to chase their dreams and live life just a little bit slower.

She is a self proclaimed extroverted introvert, who thrives off realness and authenticity (with a dash of cussing and sarcasm), and snuggling any animal she can find. She believes in sustainability in birth work, showing value, and cultivating deep relationships with those she’s in community with. Because at the end of the day, this work is not something that can truly be done alone.
Hanna Hill
Birth Photographer and Birth Social Media Strategist
Hanna is an award-winning birth photographer turned web designer and marketing strategist. Her path has taken her on many twists over the last few years landing her here working daily with people just like you – passionate, creative, and always looking for that deeper connection. She works primarily with birth photographers, creatives, and birth professionals all over the world to help them create an authentic and passionate online presence. She is ‘Mama’ to two amazing little boys, who love adventure just as much as she does. Their favorite thing to do is travel all over and experience new unique food and places.
Krista Evans
Award Winning Birth Photographer
Krista Evans is an internationally published and award winning birth photographer based out of Kelowna British Columbia, Canada.

When she’s not capturing birth stories, she spends her time at the barn enjoying the horses with her beautiful daughter and husband.

She believes that the littlest breaths within birth are the most honest and also the most remarkable and she finds such joy in documenting them!

“Standing distinguished among globally incredible on-call artists who work under the hardest lighting and environmental conditions is such an honor in itself and I have enjoyed submitting my images to the contest on an annual basis to see how much we have all grown as artists, but also to see how the world has changed regarding Birth Photography.”

Paulina Splechta, IAPBP Member since 2015

6 Reasons To Enter Our Image Competition

The SEO benefits are 100% worth the $25 entry fee.

Your entry into the competition includes a backlink to your website. A backlink from our website to your website during this high-traffic time of year is as productive to your SEO as spending about a year consistently working on DIY SEO strategies.

Help actively spread the beauty of birth.

The birth photography industry has come so far throughout the past decade, and our Annual Image Competition has been a huge catalyst of this change. When we work together to spread the beauty of birth, the demand for birth photography increases which can translate to more clients for YOU.

A portion of your entry fee helps support the improvement of maternal health around the world.

This year we will be donating a portion of our proceeds to Black Mama’s Matter Alliance, a Black women-led cross-sectoral alliance. Together, we envision a world where Black mamas have the rights, respect, and resources to thrive before, during, and after pregnancy.

Learn and grow as an artist.

Our perspective changes when we know our images will be judged by others which allows us to see our work with fresh eyes. Through community conversations and potential feedback on your images, you will learn and grow through the experience of participating in an image competition.

Have your work published.

With your entry, your work will be published on our website and your clients will be honored! We have also added a new option this year to submit your entry for blog publication as well, so there are multiple ways to have your work published through your single competition entry.

Easy portfolio updates!

Taking the time to pull about 10-30 images for an annual portfolio refresh is a task you should be making a priority anyway, and once you’ve done that, selecting 1-5 images to submit to the contest shouldn’t take much longer!
