In 2016 I went to the birth of my close friend’s child, it changed my life. I had been asked to photograph this important event for her, I had been taking photos of my friends since I was 12. After this birth, I decided birth photography was something I wanted to branch into. I inherited a great community from my mother, where I was able to develop the skills and knowledge I think is important for anyone holding space for a mother. That includes, how labor works, and how I can NOT disturb it. I want to document birth stories but I never want to be involved. When I am invited into that space, I will not disturb it, only record it. This is most important for the safety of the mother and the baby. As I have attended more and more births, I am at awe of each story I have witnessed unfold. I value the ability to help tell these stories and to give families a way to recall important moments in life. This is what I strive for, and love to do.
