Celebrating and normalizing birth has been my passion for the last 13 years as a Birth Doula. I was drawn to birth Photography about 1 year in (Film followed about 10 years later), as a means and desire to not just document a person’s journey into motherhood , but to also capture the sheer strength and beauty of the moment.I consider it a reverent time, a sacred time which deserves respect and celebration.
My Birth photographs and films are meant to elevate and enhance the way a birthing person sees themself and the tribe of people supporting them. Grab moments that if not otherwise captured, would be lost forever. A way to process the experience as well, hopefully seeing themselves in a light of beauty and empowerment. And sometimes to bring clarity to a situation or circumstance that was painful or raw.
Documentary photography and Film making are a passion I hope to be able to use to change the opinion about birth being anything but the most transformative time of a person’s life.
